At Bam & Stitch, we spend a lot of time thinking about comfort. Soft pajamas, cozy blankets, snug swaddles. The kind of comfort that helps little ones feel safe enough to rest, grow, and just be themselves. But there’s another kind of comfort that matters just as much, even if we can’t see it or fold it into a drawer: knowing that a child’s mental and emotional well-being is being cared for, too.

That’s why, for this month’s spotlight, we’re proud to support The Kids Mental Health Foundation, a nonprofit working to make children’s mental health something that everyday families feel prepared to talk about, understand, and support.

Instead of only stepping in when a child is in crisis, this foundation focuses on something powerfully simple: giving the adults in their lives the knowledge and tools they need before small struggles become big emergencies.

Who They Are and Why Their Work Matters

The Kids Mental Health Foundation (KMHF) is a nonprofit that grew out of the On Our Sleeves movement and is supported by Nationwide Children’s Hospital. At its core is a belief that feels obvious but is often overlooked in practice: children’s mental health should be treated with the same seriousness as their physical health.

Most of us accept that kids need regular checkups, nutritious food, and safe sleep to grow well. KMHF asks us to think just as intentionally about what they need emotionally. How are they coping with stress? Do they know how to name their feelings? Do the adults around them know what to look for when something isn’t quite right?

The foundation doesn’t replace therapy or clinical care. Instead, it fills a gap that so many families quietly feel: there is a lot of information out there about mental health, but not nearly enough simple, practical guidance for parents, caregivers, teachers, and community members who are with kids every single day.

Turning Expertise into Everyday Tools

One of the most impressive things about The Kids Mental Health Foundation is how they translate expert knowledge into real-world resources that anyone can use.

Clinical teams and mental health professionals help create content, but the end result doesn’t look like a textbook. It looks like:

  • A printable activity that helps a child practice identifying emotions after a hard day at school.

  • A short guide that walks a parent through how to respond when their child says, “I feel scared, and I don’t know why.”

  • Simple explanations of topics like anxiety, bullying, grief, or low self-esteem, written in plain language that a tired parent at the end of the day can actually digest.

Their resources cover a wide range of topics: worries and fears, sadness and depression, stress, peer pressure, bullying, trauma, big transitions, and more. They also provide tools, not just information. Conversation starters. Activities. Checklists. Tips for specific age groups. Advice on when it’s time to seek professional help, and how to navigate that process.

Reaching Kids by Supporting the Adults Around Them

What makes The Kids Mental Health Foundation especially powerful is its focus on the adults in a child’s world. Parents, grandparents, teachers, coaches, childcare providers, community leaders: these are the people who notice when a child “just isn’t themselves” or when big feelings are starting to bubble over.

KMHF understands that those adults don’t always feel equipped. Many of us grew up in environments where mental health wasn’t discussed openly. We may worry about saying the wrong thing, or we might dismiss our own instincts because we’re not professionals.

By providing accessible, practical resources, the foundation gives adults permission and confidence to show up differently. A teacher can recognize when a student’s behavior changes and respond in a more informed way. A parent can distinguish between a bad week and a more serious pattern. A coach can create a team environment where it’s normal to talk about nerves, frustration, and stress.

Their reach is enormous. KMHF and the broader On Our Sleeves effort have reached tens of millions of people and touched millions of classrooms across the country. Through partnerships with schools, community organizations, and corporate supporters, their content finds its way into daily routines, not just health campaigns.

The result is subtle but profound: more children growing up in spaces where it’s normal to talk about feelings, ask for help, and be taken seriously when something feels off.

Why This Matters to Us

At Bam & Stitch, we think a lot about nighttime. Bedtime routines. Snuggles under favorite blankets. The quiet moments at the end of the day when kids finally slow down enough for big feelings to surface.

For many families, those are the times when emotional check-ins happen almost naturally. A child might open up about something that happened at school. A toddler might show their stress through extra clinginess. An older kid might ask a big question right as the lights go out.

We design pajamas and blankets to help make those moments physically cozy. But we also know that comfort is deeper than softness alone. Feeling safe, heard, and supported emotionally is just as important as being warm and snug.

That’s why partnering with The Kids Mental Health Foundation in January feels like a natural extension of what we already care about. As the year begins and families think about routines, goals, and fresh starts, we’re proud to support a nonprofit that is quietly doing the work of making emotional well-being part of that conversation.

This month, Bam & Stitch will be donating a percentage of proceeds to support KMHF’s mission. When you shop with us this month, you’re not only dressing your little one in softness, you’re helping empower families and communities with tools to support kids’ mental health.

What Support Looks Like in Everyday Life

It’s easy to think of mental health support as something that happens only in clinical settings, but much of it begins at home and in everyday spaces.

Imagine a caregiver who notices their child seems unusually withdrawn after starting a new school. Instead of assuming “they’ll adjust,” they visit KMHF’s resources and find a guide about school transitions and anxiety. They learn what signs to watch for, how to open a conversation, and when to seek additional help if needed.

Picture a teacher who frequently sees students overwhelmed by stress. With KMHF materials, they might introduce short emotional check-ins, teach simple breathing exercises, or use emotion charts in the classroom. Small shifts, rooted in expert insight, can change how an entire group of children experiences their day.

Or think of a family going through a loss. Grief can look very different in children than in adults. Having age-appropriate language, activity suggestions, and guidance on how to support kids through sadness and confusion can relieve some of the pressure on already-strained parents or caregivers.

These are the kinds of moments The Kids Mental Health Foundation supports. Many of them will never be seen or celebrated publicly, but they matter deeply to the children living them.

How You Can Take Small Steps at Home

You don’t have to become an expert to support your child’s mental health. That’s the whole point of KMHF’s work: making it easier for regular families, with busy schedules and imperfect days, to do small things that add up.

You might:

  • Ask your child each night to share a “high” and “low” from their day.

  • Use a feelings chart to help younger kids point to how they feel when they don’t have the words yet.

  • Read a short article from KMHF about a topic that’s popping up in your home, like tantrums, worries, or sibling tension, and try one new strategy.

The goal isn’t perfection. It’s building a family culture where emotions are not ignored or dismissed, but noticed, named, and cared for.

Looking Ahead Together

A new year often brings resolutions around health, routines, and family time. By spotlighting The Kids Mental Health Foundation this January, we hope to gently expand that vision of health to include the invisible but vital world of children’s mental and emotional wellbeing.

We’re grateful for the chance to support a nonprofit that is turning expert knowledge into everyday tools, helping countless adults feel a little more prepared and countless children feel a little more understood.

From everyone at Bam & Stitch, thank you for being part of a community that cares not only about how soft a child’s pajamas are, but about how supported their hearts and minds feel, too.
